The London Underground and the city's buses operate on the same system of six fare zones. To travel beyond zone 1, you need a multi zone ticket. Tube and bus maps should be available at any Underground station.
You can download them before your trip from the London Transport website: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ There are information centres at all major tube and rail stations. They are open from 9am till 5pm daily, except for Sundays.
If you’re doing sight-seeing in London or plan to use public transportation a lot, then it is best to get a travel card. The travel card offers unlimited use of buses, Underground, Docklands Light Railway, and National Rail services in Greater London for any period ranging from a day to a year. You can purchase travel cards from underground ticket offices, London Transport Information Centres, main post offices in the London area, many newsagents, and some news stands. Children under age 11 generally travel free on the Tube and buses.
