The first railway in London was the ‘London and Greenwich Railway'. It was also the first railway in the world. It was opened on 8 February 1836 from Spa Road, (since then it has been closed and demolished, relics of the old station platforms can still be seen at Spa Road Junction) to Deptford. There was an extension built from Spa Road to London Bridge and this was opened on 14 December 1836.
